Muybridge in Motion brings together and animates the 20,000+ frames of the 781 plates from Eadweard Muybridge’s groundbreaking Animal Locomotion, a landmark study that broke movement into precise photographic sequences. Each plate captures humans and animals in motion, walking, running, lifting, and leaping, revealed frame by frame with a clarity that reshaped how motion could be seen and studied.

Drawn from the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and Boston Public Library, these plates are consolidated through the IIIF Presentation and Image APIs into unified IIIF Manifests. The result demonstrates both that interoperable collections can be assembled across institutions with ease, and that the IIIF Presentation API can render two-dimensional works as fluid, sequential animations.
